The analog format holds memories better than digital. I shoot on vintage Hi8 camcorders — the same format your parents used to film birthday parties in the 90s. The footage feels like a memory. Not cinematic. Not editorial. Warm, a little fuzzy, textured and completely human.
People act differently in front of a camcorder. Less performative, more likely to actually say something that sounds like them. There's no noisy crew and it doesn't feel like anyone is watching.
A huge part of my process is the interviewing. I talk to your people throughout the day while the emotions are still alive. I have a bank of questions I've personally developed and I know how to get people to open up. Their real words and real voices become the backbone of your film.
I combine Hi8 documentary footage with expert interviewing. This is storytelling. It shows you things you weren't even in the room for.
A lot of couples are handing rented camcorders to their guests right now and I think that's so fun. But your friends should be present with you on your day, not working for you. And if you leave it up to them there's a good chance some of it's gonna get missed.
What I bring is a professional eye, a documentarian's instinct, and a bank of questions I've personally developed. I know who to approach, when to approach them, and how to get them to share the message that's gonna make you laugh and cry at the same time.
I do this for couples who value meaning and feeling. This is not for couples who want to create an Instagram version of their wedding. This is for people who may not love to perform. Who care about the real stuff. Who want their wedding day to feel like their wedding day.
